From a small grill booth to a grill chain
The story of Lenny’s really began back in the 1970s, when a small wooden grill kiosk was built in Jääli, a quiet crossroads area near Oulu. It wasn’t fancy, but it was important: a place where you could get sausage, basic burgers, and a bit of local chatter on the side.
In the 1990s, a small drive-through window was added, allowing hungry travelers to grab food straight to their cars. Around that same time, a young Leiska could often be found helping out, tagging along with his parents and doing whatever he could — mostly filling candy bags and sneaking a few treats himself. That’s where his journey toward working behind the grill really began.
In 2009, Jääli’s Autokipsa was completely rebuilt into new premises, becoming Jäälin Messi. By then in his early twenties, Leiska took charge and ran Messi until 2013, before moving on to new challenges.
But as often happens, he found his way back to the grill.
In the winter of 2022, Leiska returned to Jääli and a new concept was born. One that combines traditional grill food, modern premium burgers, and a relaxed, down-to-earth atmosphere with a sense of humor that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
When the renewed Jääli Autogrill opened its doors on February 2nd, 2022, Jenny also stepped in. With a lifetime of experience in the restaurant industry, she quickly picked up the work behind the grill.
As the year went on, Leiska and Jenny decided to join forces and build something of their own: Lenny’s, a name that reflects their personality, relaxed approach, and love for great grill food.
The company’s first full year began in January 2023, focused on building the present while planning for the future.
It didn’t take long before the first expansion became reality: in spring 2025, a new Lenny’s restaurant opened in Kaakkuri, Oulu, bringing strong confidence for what’s ahead.
In February 2026, the circle was completed when Jääli Autogrill officially became Lenny’s. Same location, same roots, but with even stronger expertise.
